The primary role of the equipping ministry at HCC is to provide resources and relationships to enable our members to get involved at HCC, grow in their relationship with God, and have increased impact in their ministry in our church and community.
“And his gifts were that some should be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ…” Eph 4:11-13
The following resources, classes, and study groups serve toward making this a reality:
Stepping Stones – Stepping Stones, a five-week class taught by Dale Patterson, is for all new members and anyone with questions about HCC or Presbyterianism, in general. The class also provides an overview of the ministries at HCC and an opportunity to meet various ministry leaders in the church. The session includes a dinner in the Pastor’s home and concludes with a newcomer brunch on the sixth Sunday.
GiftEd – What if you possessed a gift your entire life, hidden from you, but perhaps obvious to others? Discover how God has gifted each of us with unique abilities, interests, experiences, gifts, and personality, perfectly calibrated for our particular circumstance, life journey, and relationships. GiftEd is a lively and interactive six-week course offered periodically throughout the year, a course to learn about our spiritual gifts and to be equipped to use those gifts in ministry. The class is offered at HCC during the adult education hour. Alan and Paula Messimer speak about how to discover the unique tools and spiritual gifts God has given us. One of the tools used can be found at http://archive.elca.org/evangelizingchurch/assessments/ Class size is limited, so sign up in the Narthex, contact the church office.
Support Team Discovery Events – HCC equips our members to care for those individuals or families who may be living with health concerns or other needs by forming support teams. A support team is a group of volunteers working together to provide practical, emotional, and spiritual support by “doing what you love/when you can/in a coordinated way/with a built-in support system”. We hold Discovery Events throughout the year to share the ministry model with those who are interested in getting involved, as well as to learn who may need care.
"Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you in prison and go to visit you?" The King will reply,"I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one to the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me." Matt 25:37-40
Newcomer's Class – This class is a six week introduction for people who have made HCC their home or are considering doing so. It addresses isues such as: What is HCC about? What are our core beliefs? What's going on at HCC? How do I get involved and in what? What's here for me at this church? The class concludes with a dinner/social gathering at the pastor's home and a Sunday morning brunch to help our members get connected in ministry. This class meets twice a year for six weeks in the Tri-room in the education wing. Stay tuned for the nedt scheduled class some time this fall.
